St. Petersburg, Florida
We’re excited to join a stellar lineup of vendors this coming Saturday, December 21st, from 12-6 pm at the St. Pete Indie Market on the 600 Block of Central Avenue in downtown St. Petersburg, FL. Come on by for a visit and pick up some beautiful, hand-crafted cards by The Southern Letterpress and Oma Darlin’ Press. Just in time for the holidays…
Join The Southern Letterpress and Oma Darlin’ Press at our studio in Gulfport, FL, for Paper & Pints! Our December Paper & Pints will take place on Friday, December 20th, from 7-9 pm, and will feature a FREE screening of Linotype: The Film, a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. Called the “Eighth Wonder of the World” by Thomas Edison, it revolutionized printing and society. The film tells the charming and emotional story of the people connected to the Linotype and how it impacted the world.
Visit our Facebook event page for more details about the event, including directions to our Gulfport studio. We’ll have pint glasses and plenty of chairs on-hand. BYOB this time around!
Paper & Pints will be taking place every Fourth Friday from 7-9 pm. Our first session, scheduled for Friday, October 25th, will feature an Introduction to Bookbinding. For $10, you can join us for the Bookbinding Demo. Or you can purchase the Demo & DIY Kit for $20 and try your hand at the craft! FREE local craft beer will be on-hand for all attendees (ages 21 and over, of course).
Please RSVP to ensure that there are enough Paper & Pints for everyone to enjoy! We’ll add your name to our list and your registration fees can be paid on-site via cash, check, credit or debit card. Please indicate in your e-mail if you plan to attend the DEMO ONLY or if you would also like to purchase a DIY KIT.
Visit our Facebook event page for more information. We look forward to seeing you at The Southern Letterpress for Paper & Pints!

We are super-excited to report that our new studio space is up and running! Located on the border of St. Petersburg and Gulfport, FL, just south of the Pinellas Trail, the 1250 square foot space is a perfect fit for The Southern and our partner-in-letterpress, Oma Darlin’ Press! We’ll be hosting an opening celebration for our friends, family and clients on the evening of Friday, September 27th. We welcome you to send us your contact information and we’ll be sure to send you an invitation!
We’re also looking forward to hosting a series of small workshops in the space, starting with an introductory bookbinding workshop in October. In November, we’ll be offering folks the chance crank the press and print their own letterpress cards. Contact us for more information about these workshops and other upcoming events. We hope to see you soon at The Southern in St. Petersburg . . . and now Gulfport!

This exciting event is sponsored by the Arts Association Saint Petersburg and sponsored by the Tampa Bay Times. The Southern Letterpress is honored to participate. We look forward to sharing some handset type and hand cranked printing demonstrations with our visitors at ARTicles!

Thanks to a tip from our good friends at Calusa Press, The Southern Letterpress is now featured on Inker Linker, a directory of printers founded and maintained by the amazing Jessica Hische–letterer, illustrator and letterpress enthusiast! The site is organized by ‘Most Likes’ and ‘Location.’ If you’re a satisfied client of The Southern, we’d greatly appreciate it if you’d post a comment to our Alabama and Florida listings on the site!
We are so excited! The Southern Letterpress is currently featured on Blogxcar, the amazing blog published by our friends and colleagues at Boxcar Press. Take a gander at our inking tips for printing a multi-color gradient (a.k.a. rainbow roll) in Blogxcar’s latest post, Think Ink! We are so grateful to Rebecca Miller and the Boxcar crew for inviting us to contribute. Thanks, y’all!
